Only 2 of the signers of the Declaration of Independence signed it on July 4 - John Hancock and Charles Thomson.  The rest signed later it later, spread out over a period of time.

  1. Lots of interesting info at this link. For instance, the copies that were circulated to all the colonies actually were sent before the "original" existed. The one we are most familiar with, the formally "engrossed" onto parchment wasn't completed, and hence signed until August 9th. The Dunlap "broadsides" copies went out around July 9th.
