Happy Tau Day.  I agree with those who believe that using tau is better than  using pi.

A man locked himself in a room for 121 days with 40 deadly snakes to create a record, later found out Guinness no longer maintain that record.

96

We have been having a heat wave here in Alaska.  I DO NOT like this!

Yesterday's weather set many high records, including 96 F  a bit north of Talkeetna.  (36 C,  309 K)

Talkeetna, the last stop for many people before going to climb Denali (the tallest mountain in North America), is supposedly the town that Cicily was based on in the TV show Northern Exposure.

(BTW, their mayor is a cat.)

37

Some people have chosen 37 as their favorite number. Here are the reasons from two of them:

"It looks mysterious, like a cloaked villan from a silent movie."

"More recently I've taken a liking in - what appears to me and many others - as the oddest number: 37. There just seems to be nothing you can divide it by or much you can do with it."

546,372,891 ^ 23 (a 201 digit number)

In 1977,  at the Southern Methodist University, Shakuntala Devi (November 4, 1929 – April 21, 2013), popularly known as "Human Computer", was asked to give the 23rd root of a 201-digit number; she answered in 50 seconds. Her answer—546,372,891—was confirmed by calculations done at the U.S. Bureau of Standards by the Univac 1101 computer, for which a special program had to be written to perform such a large calculation.

In mathematics, a quasiperfect number is a natural number n for which the sum of all its divisors is equal to 2n + 1. No quasiperfect numbers have been found so far, but it has been shown that if any quasiperfect numbers exist, they must be greater than 10^35 and have at least seven distinct prime factors.

2187

It seems Princess Leia’s stint in cell 2187 during A New Hope was far from random. The number is the year that THX 1138, George Lucas’ first feature film, was set. It’s also a reference to one of Lucas’ favorite short films, 2187.

Ever notice the characters "A113" appear in many Pixar movies? This is the number from a room at California Institute of the Arts, a place where many of the artists from Pixar studied.

2,800,000

Mike Hayes of Illinois was so desperate to learn that he wrote to his local paper for help. He asked readers to donate their pennies to help send him to college. The result was overwhelming, with locals giving a total of $28,000. That was enough for Hayes to study Food Science at the University of Illinois.

Discovered something great about the numbers 12 and 21:

I wasn't sure whether to list this under 12 or 21, so I added them together and listed it under 33.

2^67- 1,  approximately 1.4757395258968 x 10^20, approximately 148 quintillion

For many years, people did not know whether this number was prime or composite.

In 1879, Édouard Lucas proved that it was not prime, but was not able to give any factors.

In October 1903, at a meeting of the American Mathematical Society, Frank Nelson Cole was scheduled to deliver a talk called “On the Factorization of Large Numbers”. For his presentation, he walked up to the chalkboard and worked out by hand 2 to the 67th power, then subtracted 1. Then he moved over to a blank spot on the board and worked out in longhand 193,707,721 x 761,838,257,287. The two results matched. Cole sat down. It had been an hour long presentation. This was the only time the audience at an AMS audience vigorously applauded. Later, when asked how long it took him to find the factorization, Cole replied “Three Years of Sundays”.

63

put today, since it is 6/3

Some people's comments on a post in another blog about the number 63.  (The blog post itself didn't make much sense.)

  *****

I too have the number 63 in my life and I see it in almost everything I do. I too do not know what it means. I first noticed this number when I was playing a dice game. Every time I rolled the dice, it came out 6/3. I rolled it about five or six times and each time it came out 6/3. I've had some bad luck with this number. I got laid off of a job and I realize that my employee number was 63. If I do come across this number I will ask for a different number. I always look at receipts very carefully, and sure enough there always is a 63 in it. When I got my license plate to my new car. I turned it in for an other new license plate because of the number 63, but unfortunately my insurance policy also had that number in it and there is nothing I can do about that. I will not intentionally picked this number, and if I can change it. I will. Also every year on June 3 I become hyper-aware of the month and of the day and I make myself scarce to the public.

I've been a dealer in the casino and i can always see the cards, 6 and 3 always come out numerous times continuously and consistently. I also see this everywhere, unit blocks, parking lots, roads and transit etc. Its pretty uncanny lol.

  *****

I really need help who is going 2help me,by telling me the reason why am always seeing the number 63?   I was playing a game called lido and in this game each time i throw the dies it shows 63 sometimes after i must have throwed it about 4 or 5times it will show back 63 i really dont understand what does this number mean, and why am i always seeing it?

  *****

I dreamt last night i will die aged 63

  *****

i was born at 6:36 am. I've come across literally hundreds of occurrences of 63 such that 63 represents a property of something, i.e., i was told last week by a friend that his dog was about to have her puppies. He said they have puppies within 63 days of getting pregnant. I thought only I noticed this number seemingly connected everywhere. It's pretty freaking odd how 63 shows up as properties of facts of just about everything.

  *****

I am seeing 63 everywhere as well. Like the other day when some friends of mine were discussing a dogs age in dog years and they came up with 63...Like a hamburger menu which listed 63 SEK(in sweden), I stopped below a sign once which said "63 something street"...the phonenumber at my old job started with 63, the other week I found a drawer in the back outside a shop and checked to see if it was empty and saw the number 63 written inside it. Back in 1998, 63 youths died in a major fire in Gothenburg, Sweden where i'm originally from. Coincidence? Don't think so. I would love to know what it means. Nice to see that isn't just me seeing this number.

  *****

Having the same occurances as you. I was born in 1963, my football number in H.S. was 63, the first touchdown I scored was for 63 yards. The highway marker I turn on every day is number 63. I have had dreams with the number 63. There is more to this then what can be explained. Glad to know I am not crazy yet!

  *****

I can't believe i'm not alone!! ..i'v been seeing the no.63 EVERYWHERE since i was in my early teens but lately in my 30's i see it on a daily basis, sometimes three or more times a day.. some would think i'm obsessive & 'look' for the number but no its very random.. first set of digits in a phone number, post codes, House numbers i'v lived in, change given in a shop, prices on goods i buy, family dates of birth, the list is endless! the past few weeks iv looked at the clock on my phone either out & about or at home (randomly) & its always said 6.30 on the dot.. i thought i was going mad until i started researching & relieved an surprised to discover how many other people see it daily without looking for it!!
