1,140,000

The Western Stone is the largest stone in the Western Wall.  It weighs approximately 1,140,000 pounds (517,000 kilograms).

It is one of the largest building blocks in the world. The stone is 44.6 feet (13.6 meters) long and 9.8 feet (3 meters) high and has an estimated width of 10.8 feet (3.3 meters)

The holes in it were made by the Romans, so they could cover it more easily with whatever they wanted to cover it with.

The stone is not in the portion of the Wall that is seen in pictures of the Wall.  It is along the underground tunnel along side the wall, to the left of the portion of the wall that has been uncovered.

  1. Absolutely fascinating. I did a bit of searching and came up with the following video:

I hope this doesn't sound somehow sacrilegious, but I find it very fascinating that a common way that ancient peoples honored their Divinities was by carving and moving very large stones. I wonder what the significance is.
