A...Living in Cincinnati, LEX is very close to here. As I private pilot (although not recently active) I've flown into there many times. I do remember that crash well as it obviously made the local news here. There was another embarrassing Delta incident many years earlier. Instead of landing at LEX the flight landed at Frankfort (FFT), which is only 20-25 miles away and a similar runway pattern. The main runway at FFT is 25, so only 10 degrees off from LEX's 24 or 30° off from 22 (Runway numbers are their magnetic bearing divided by 10 and rounded off). It is easy to confuse the two airports, so close together and so similar in appearance from the air.
